72 hour kits

Be Ready Utah!
(Please watch this short video. Kits Don't make themselves)

For the Month of April and May we will be focusing on getting our 72 hour kits fine tuned. I'm sure many of you have one or some around your house right now.
Here are a few questions to consider.

1. Do you know where they are?
2. If you have children, do they know where they are?
3. When was the last time you took inventory of the items in them?
4. Could you Really be comfortable for 3 days with only the items in your kit?

It's a good habit to go through your water supply and 72 hour kits every 6 months to keep tabs on it. A perfect time to do that is during Conference weekend. If it's time to replace out dated or near outdated food items. Then it could be a perfect time to let the children (grandchildren or yourself) enjoy a fun experience of eating the food, then replace it!

What to put in Your 72 hour kit and what kind of container to use?

A bucket, a back pack, a trash can, a suit case.
Whatever you can personal carry to a safe location, until order is restored.

Food and water remain #1: Be careful with the pull top can goods. I have heard that they can leak over time and ruin everything else in your pack. If you have packed  the regular kind of can goods then make sure you also pack a can opener.

Remember medical needs (prescriptions or pain relief)

Young children: to keep them occupied a simple pad of paper and pen, or coloring book. Be careful about crayons melting though in storage. Diapers or hygiene needs for youth and adults.

Clothing and protection from weather: sizes change so it is important to monitor your packs @ every 6 months. Blankets ponchos etc.

Security: Flashlights help bring comfort. The ability to make fire if water or food need to be warmed. These kinds of thing bring familiarity and comfort.

There are Many things that could be put into a pack and lists can be found everywhere. Pack what brings you comfort. Whether it is candy, a book, or a stuffed animal. Only You know what is best for you.
