Canning Tips

It is officially fruit season. I am starting to see an abundance of fruit hanging from trees.
If you are lucky enough to have some trees of your own or to have a neighbor with a giving heart, then you are in luck.

Today my daughter brought over some apricots from a neighbor who said they wont be eating them and that they will just go to waste. So keep your eyes and ears open for those special opportunities. Then get busy canning!

The other day we were told about a cherry farm in Hurricane that had cherries for the picking at $1.00 a pound. That is an unbelievable price!

So we made it a family activity for FHE and came home with several pounds. I need to share what I learned since this was my first time to can cherries.

This is HOW I did it without spending what I saved on the fruit to buy a cherry pitter.
That's right, A Paper Clip!

I pitted @ 13 pounds of cherries this way.
Here is a video showing you HOW it is done.

And this is how it all turned out...

NICE wouldn't you agree?!
So look for those great deals and have yourself some fun this Summer.
